Clinton County Warrant Records Clinton County Warrant Records

When a warrant question comes up, the answer lives in a handful of Clinton County offices, not in a single search box. Misdemeanor, traffic, and ordinance cases belong to the 65A District Court. Felony files sit with the County Clerk. The police department that worked a case can confirm an arrest warrant directly. Have a name, a date of birth, and a case number if one exists. One check rarely settles it. Clinton County warrant records stay with those offices until an order is served, recalled, or quashed. Most people who ask about an outstanding warrant want to clear it, and that road runs through the issuing court and a lawyer.

Checking for a Warrant in Clinton County

One court handles most Clinton County warrant checks. The 65A District Court Online Warrant Review covers the misdemeanor, traffic, and ordinance matters where most local warrants begin, and its interface at cii2.courtinnovations.com/MID65A opens onto Search, Traffic, and Warrant tabs. Identifiers matter here. The form wants a date of birth plus either a driver's license and state or a case number. A lone name returns nothing.

  1. Enter the date of birth in MM/DD/YYYY format on the warrant tab.
  2. Add the driver's license and state, or use the case-number route.
  3. Search MiCOURT for hearings and missed dates on the public docket.
  4. Call 65A: criminal at 989-224-5153, traffic at 989-224-5151.
  5. Call the investigating police agency, which handles the arrest.
  6. For felony or family files, ask the County Clerk at 989-224-5140.

How Clinton County's Online Warrant Review Works

The Online Warrant Review is a court workflow, not a browsable list. Nobody can search it by name. It publishes no roster of open Clinton County warrants. What it does is let a person identify their own traffic or warrant matter online and move it forward. The county landing page links straight to the vendor interface.

Clinton County Warrant Types

Michigan paperwork sorts warrants by trigger and by signing court. A bench warrant for a missed date gets handled at a different desk. An arrest warrant on a new charge is another animal again, and Clinton County treats each accordingly.

Warrant TypeHow It ArisesWho Issues It
Arrest warrantProbable cause found on a criminal complaint65A judge or magistrate; 29th Circuit for felonies
Bench warrantMissed court date, contempt, or noncomplianceThe judge handling the case
Traffic FTA warrantUnanswered citation or missed traffic date65A District Court

Under MCL 764.1, the Code of Criminal Procedure spells out what every signed Clinton County warrant must contain.

Why Clinton County Has No Public Sheriff Warrant Roster

The Clinton County Sheriff's Office runs the jail, patrols the county, and serves court process, yet its official page posts no warrant list, no warrant division, and no search of its own. Michigan offers no statewide public roster to fall back on. LEIN, the state law enforcement network, restricts access to criminal justice agencies. The public history tool, MSP ICHAT, excludes warrant information outright.

Note: Anyone selling a statewide Clinton County warrant list is selling something the state does not publish.

Inside a Clinton County Warrant Record

A warrant record is shorter than people expect. The paper warrant and the court entry hold the identifiers, the reason, the issuing court, and the bond. SCAO forms lay out the fields: MC 229 for bench warrants and MC 231 for search warrants, the same set used in Clinton County.

The Three-Office Check: 65A, the Circuit Clerk, and the Police

No single office answers every warrant question in Clinton County. The fast route to a real answer is knowing which of the three holds what. The division follows the case, not the person.

65A District CourtMisdemeanor, traffic, ordinance, and preliminary filesDistrict warrants, bond, court dates, payments
County Clerk / Circuit ClerkFelony and family files for the 29th CircuitCircuit filings, sentencing, certified copies

The county search hub points to both the district case inquiry and circuit filings in Clinton County, a split worth remembering.

Issuing and Serving Warrants in Clinton County

Judges and district court magistrates issue warrants in Clinton County. Peace officers serve them. The Clinton County Prosecutor reviews and authorizes a criminal complaint, but the court authorizes the warrant, and the investigating agency makes the arrest. The sheriff, a city department, or the Michigan State Police may execute the same order depending on who built the file. The county law enforcement directory lists each agency.

If You Have a Warrant in Clinton County

An open warrant does not improve with time. Michigan Court Rule 6.105 lets a person who appears before the issuing court within a year of issuance be arraigned if a judge is available, or have the warrant recalled with a new date set. Assaultive and domestic violence offenses sit among the exceptions. Call the issuing court first. Ask which suite to report to, whether the warrant is recallable, and what bond applies. Bring identification, the case number, and any paperwork about the missed date.

Important: Talk to a lawyer before turning yourself in. A voluntary appearance starts the court process rather than ending it, and an active warrant can lead to arrest at a traffic stop.

Why a Payment Plan Does Not Stop Warrant Procedure

Clinton County's Financial Obligations page lays out the payment plan: bring a completed Affidavit of Financial Statement to the District Court in person before 4 p.m., with a $50 initial payment for civil infractions or ten percent of the amount due in criminal cases. The Judicial Enforcement Officer sits at 989-227-6493. The same page carries a warning in capital letters, and it deserves to be taken literally. A payment plan will not stop a driver's license suspension or arrest warrant procedure.

Note: A receipt proves a payment, not a recall, so ask the court to confirm any status change.

Clinton County Warrant Records and Public Access

Michigan opens much court and county business to inspection, but a warrant is not one public document in one drawer. Court files, sheriff's records, and police investigative files in Clinton County follow separate rules. Some material is closed entirely.

Key Rules:

Michigan Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 et seq. A written request goes to the FOIA coordinator of the public body holding the record.

MCL 15.235 Sets the five business day response window and the conditions for an extension.

MCL 15.243 Lists the exemptions, including investigative material and police records.

Sealed records, juvenile files, suppressed material, and active investigations may be withheld or redacted in Clinton County. Asking in writing for the nonexempt portions is the usual next step.

FOIA Requests for Clinton County Warrant Records

A warrant records request in Clinton County starts with paperwork. The county FOIA page posts the form at FOIA-Request-PDF, and it asks for the department, a description of the record, and your acceptance of allowable charges. Expect to pay half up front if the county estimates the cost above $50. Aim the request at whichever office holds the file. Warrant service records go to the sheriff through sherifffoia@clinton-county.org, district case documents belong to the 65A clerk, and circuit criminal files sit with the County Clerk, whose published fees include $10 per name for a mailed ten-year search. To mirror that split between district inquiry and circuit filings yourself, the Clinton County public case search hub separates the two kinds of court records on one screen.

What ICHAT and LEIN Can and Cannot Tell You

Two state systems come up in almost every warrant conversation, and neither is a warrant search. LEIN is the network agencies use to enter and share warrant records, and the public cannot query it.

ICHAT returns a name-based criminal history for a fee, and the state excludes warrant information along with traffic, juvenile, and local misdemeanor records. MiCOURT shows charges, hearings, and docket events, which can point to a missed date without confirming a warrant.
